Organising Greeting Cards

I like to keep a stash of greeting cards for numerous occasions on hand. As much as I would like to make them myself, there is only so many hours in one day! So I buy them cheap and store them until needed.

My storage was once just throw it in an underbed storage container along with the wrapping paper and other bits for present giving (ribbons, sticky-tape, etc) but they would get buried and forgotten, only to have to purchase another – not really saving dollars that way!

Enter my next attempt at organising – a little box designed for storing DVD’s. I thought if I made little dividers and stored them sideways to the box, I could categorize them. Worked in theory, in practice not so much..

They pretty much slid down and sat in a pile within the box, not quite what I was going for.

When shopping in Officeworks one day, I saw these accordion files. I knew this could work with a little adapting, at $2.99 I figured it was worth a shot.

With a little pretty paper, double sided tape and letter stickers, I transformed the look of my plain little accordion file quickly and easily.  The problem – the inside was marked with categories designed for household filing.

So, I cut some little strips of co-ordinating scrapbook paper and glued them to cover the pre-printed wording.

And printed out some greeting card organisation labels with the handy dandy label-maker to cover the A-Z.

Now they are easily categorized and there is plenty of room to expand my collection. Never again will a card be buried or forgotten.

Do you bulk buy greeting cards? How do you store them? Do you still give a card for occasions or are you a gift tag kind of person?
