I am a Mumma, a Wife, a Daughter, a Grand-daughter, a Sister… (I could go on, you get the idea) but where in the general scheme of things am I, well, ME?
A little while ago, I realised that in amongst all of these things I had lost touch with who this ME was.
Sure they are important roles to play and with them comes certain responsibilities but I was forgetting the most significant factor in my life story. I had forgotten to nurture myself, to give that same love and attention that I so willingly and easily gave to others but save none for myself, to give all my energies and leave nothing in the tank ..
When you say yes to others make sure you are not saying no to yourself – Paulo Coehlo
It could not continue this way, it would not continue that way, things would change and this little ol’ ME would no longer come last on the list, I would take my energies and I would fill my tank and leave enough reserves for those closest to me, followed by the rest. I would come FIRST!
No, it is not selfish and yes, I did feel a little guilty at first.
I shuffled my schedule and I made time, to do what I wish – just for ME!
This is time well spent. Not only am I a lot happier which in turn makes those around me happier, I am setting a good example for my kidlets. They will grow up knowing self-importance, remembering to nurture themselves not just their families.
I am ME first and foremost but I am also a Mumma, a Wife ….. etc.
Enough about ME, What about YOU?

Hi there Stacey-Lee, I have got good in my old age about carving out time for me. Had a fab walk this week, and did a cheese making course yesterday. But I needed it as it’s been a bugger of a week in many ways. Four weeks with no hubby and we’re all ragged… only one week to go. I often talk about ‘ruthless self-care’, good to hear you’re reaping the benefits.
Hi Seana, glad to hear that in such a trying week/s you have been able to find the time for you. A cheese making course sounds fascinating. One more week …. bet you can’t wait for hubby to come home! Thanks for supporting TEAM Friday
This quote from Paulo Coelho means everything. It is so important to not forget yourself. If you are a happy person, people around you will feel it and most probably they will be happier too.
Hi Rita, it is a great quote to remember. Happiness is very contagious. Thank you for supporting TEAM Friday
Well I didn’t get too much exercise in this week, my ankles are still sore, I’m starting to worry that I have damaged them with my cheap runners and over enthusiastic running program. I even rang a podiatrist today but can’t get in for another week, so I left it and am hoping time will heal my injuries. I think I might stick to walking if I can’t get the running thing happening painlessly. I am doing well on my weight watchers plan and lost 1.2 kgs last week, so that is one thing to be happy about. Today I spent nearly the whole day helping at my sons school, there is an open day next Friday and we had to get some packages delivered to households and couldn’t wait for the mail, so I played Postman Pat instead. Normally I do craft every second Friday at my church and it is fantastic, I do scrapbooking and try to keep up with my kids albums, but we also have beading, mosaics, knitting, cardmaking etc and a creche and delicious morning tea and endless cups of tea and coffee. I LOVE my crafty Fridays!!
Hi Wendy, I wonder – do you run on the road, I only ask because I find that even with wonderfully supportive shoes it can aggravate my shins. Playing Postman Pat sounds like fun! Congrats on your weight loss, that is fabulous news. Oh, scrapbooking how I love thee too, I must remember to share some of my stuff but considering I don’t share photos of my kid lets and most of it is of them, it could prove a little difficult .. hmm, you’ve got me thinking. Thanks ever so much for supporting TEAM Friday, I look forward to your updates
