Take A Step Back In Order To Move Forward

Posted on

With so many great blogs and websites, it is all too easy to get carried away pinning and pining for a more beautiful, more organised home.

Throw in a bit of dreaming and pretty soon, you may find yourself with great plans.  To do this, to buy that, to make this … where does all of this get you?  With an ever-growing ‘to do’ list, a feeling of ‘not enough’ and no real sense of accomplishment.

I look around my now seven and a half year old house and sure, I dream of nicer decor, an extension (or two) and more trendy furniture but what I also see is a home that we own (well, paying off the bank for) which we had previously only dreamed about and a ‘lived in’ space that whilst it could not rivel any magazine spread, it is comfortable.

I am all for improvement, in our home and ourselves, but I think it definetly pays to take a step back .. away from the inspiration and dreams .. take a real good look around at what you do have and what it took to get there.  Be grateful for the do’s and not sad for the ‘have-nots’.  Strive for better, sure, but don’t lose sight of how far you have come …

So, quit beating yourself up because those inspirational images are sooooo much prettier, more organised than your own, open your eyes to the great things about your own home, rejoice in how far you have come.

Now, forget the pretty labels and baskets, re-work those spaces with what you already have (up-cycle or improvise), enjoy what you have and feel better for the fact that you have come so far …

Do not stop dreaming, for that is how we got here, but get out and DO!  Get On With IT Already!
