A little too often lately, I have had that unmotivated, don’t want to do anything ‘blah’ feeling and I just can’t seem to shake it.
So I have spent way too much time on my computer/smartphone on sites like facebook and pinterest; been catching up on my favourite blogs and discovering new ones; and just plain old procrastinating.
It got me thinking. I know my whole motto {blog name even!} is to just ‘Get on with IT already!’ and sometimes that works, to just get up and start doing whatever it is that needs doing and somehow you get into the rhythm and push to get it done.
But, like I said, sometimes this is not the best approach, the ‘rhythm’ still eludes you and the task at hand gets longer, more tedious as you go.
If this is the case, as it has been with me, it really is not worth continuing with said task. STOP whatever you are doing and do something else!
DO NOT make that something else one of your ‘should do’s', rather choose an activity that you LOVE to do but have not recently made the time to do; or exercise (even if it’s just a short walk outside); or turn up some music and do whatever it takes to energise you; or take a nap, long soak in the tub or sit listening to nature - whatever it takes to break the ‘blah’ feeling, rejuvenate and make you HAPPY.
The most important thing is to enjoy your life—to be happy—it’s all that matters.
Audrey Hepburn
Those ‘should do’s’ will still be there later.
You will be looking after your needs which, in turn, will enable you to better look after everyone/everything else.
And, you just might put yourself and your frame of mind in a place where you can just ‘Get on with IT already!’ – whatever IT may be!
So, to heed my own advice, if anyone is looking for me, you will find me either in the shed getting my DIY groove on, at the kitchen table fiddling with some craft project or engaging in anything else from My Happiness List.
Have you ever had that ‘blah’ feeling?
What did you do to ‘shake it off’?
When was the last time you took some time out for yourself?
What do you do to make you happy?

I know that blah feeling and it sucks. i normally cure it with retail and vodka therapy in no particular order
Hope you shake it soon hun xx
Thanks Sonia, I took your advice and the vodka went down very well, cheers!
hugs – this is the story of my life – i sink into it with books and bed and push out with laughter via DVDs/ movie days out by myself or with a friend.
Laughter, yes another powerful ‘blah’ shaker! I threw the ball around with the kidlets that afternoon and we did silly dances whenever we caught the ball, giggles all round
Writing a happiness list is a fabulous idea. When I get the doldrums I tend to have trouble thinking of a way out of it, hopefully now I can pick one, pick myself up, and yes, get on with it!
I find that having the happiness list helps remind me to include more of these items in my everyday life, however I obviously had not been putting enough attention to it lately for the ‘blah’s to have set in.
Oh that horrid BLAH – I don’t like it at all! I love this post! So great to have someone remind me to just ‘Getonwithitalready’ – so, so true! Gosh – I really love it!
Thanks so much for sharing with #teamfriday – I love that you have used my button and everything!! Very cool!
Your most welcome, love a good button
I used to read but now I go for a run – find it really helps to clear my head.
Linking in from bbeingcool – hope you find your mojo soon !!
Me
I used to run too, or should I say jog/walk, must get into doing that again, thanks for stopping by.
Oh my, i just skipped over here from a link in workingwomenaustralia via a link up @ the organised housewife, I know- i am am having that stagnate blah right now, thanks for reminding me how to get out, usually i’ll go sit in the sun and recharge (or nap!), or go play with the babies- they always snap you out of any sort of blah!
Thanks for stopping by Rachel, always happy to hear where people have found me, appreciate you letting me know.
Glad to know I am not alone in this feeling at the moment.
Try to stave it off, not let it get going… with sleep and good food and fresh air… and by having something to look forward to, a change of some sort, a holiday… that’s worth its weight in gold.
Yes, good sleep and nutrition works wonders. I have had trouble sleeping lately, that could be a factor for sure!
I haven’t taken time out for myself for a while, unless you count study and assignments. I don’t! But I’m one exam away from finishing uni so I’m trying to work out exactly what I will do to celebrate and reward myself. A trip to Europe sounds nice… but I might have to settle for something less extravagant!
I’d settle for any holiday, extravagant or not. Best of luck with your last exam and congrats on finishing soon. Whatever you do to celebrate, please take some time out for yourself
I definitely have those moments – hours – days!! Sometimes life just overwhelms and you need to rest. I pull out my favourite movies and watch them back to back or over and over! I play music from decades ago that makes me want to get up and dance (the recent stuff never works on these occasions, but the stuff from my youth – yeah baby!!). I also don’t push myself to do anything when I feel like this cause it all goes sideways and the feeling gets worse! Show yourself some love, cut yourself some slack and when you do, the energy will come back! xox
Thanks Anne, have been cutting myself some slack with a little bit of being slack in there too! Slowly the energy is coming back
Yes, I know that blah feeling. I have been feeling a little flat too. Slowly perking myself up.
Rachel x
Hi Rachel, perking up a little here too
Ahh, blah. I know it so well. Unfortunately, spend far too much of my blah time trawling FB & blogs. But then if blah didn’t have that effect on my I may never have got a chance to read your post
Love your work xx
Yep very much of my blah time spent on fb and blogs too and I never thought of it like that – so is it wrong of me to be grateful for those that feel blah and happen upon my little blog? xo
